Town Overview

About Lower Township

Lower Township was formed as a precinct on April 2, 1723, and incorporated as one of New Jersey's original townships on February 21, 1798.

Portions of the township were later used to form Cape May, Cape May Point, Holly Beach, South Cape May, Wildwood Crest, and North Cape May. Some of those areas were later restored to Lower Township or reorganized as separate municipalities.

Today, Lower Township combines established residential neighborhoods, bayfront communities, historic sites, school campuses, aviation facilities, local shopping corridors, recreational destinations, and convenient access to Cape May and the Wildwoods.
